i made the original version of this garden as a vessel to hide some gift codes. but i became quickly more interesting in making something that responded to the player’s limited inputs in obscure ways. there are several different phases to the way the garden can grow, decompose and rejuvenate itself, which depend on you judiciously dropping things down the well at the right time.
even if the game is too slow to make finding every permutation of its growth, death and regrowth worthwhile, i still think there’s something to a mechanic like this. plus i kind of like the idea you may only see a part of the whole.
the mechanic of dropping items down a well is part of treasure shrine too, only it actually has an effect here.
